So we tried to get tickets and well failed! queue disappointment. I felt quite deflated as after 5 years we had failed even through the presale. Then Adele announced more dates. I literally squealed of excitement. So on Sunday we rung the presale line and well, we only blooming got them! I understand peoples frustrations about getting the Adele tickets. I don't want to jinx things but my mum and I have always been quite lucky and fortunate that we have managed to always get tickets. But trying for the Adele tickets was the first time I was genuinely nervous about getting them. They were also pretty pricey, £90, but its Adele. We were willing to pay that much money!!
Then we were deciding to stay in London after the concert or not. I don't know if you have been to the 02 arena before but its a nightmare to get home from after a concert. Sometimes it can take a solid hour to get out of the car park. We usually get a taxi back to kings cross station and then get the train home. Which is always fun at about 12am! But this time we decided to stay over as we knew they were building a new hotel right next door to the 02 arena. It was set to be finished building by then so we booked. It was quite pricey but considering the hassle of getting a taxi at that time of night we decided to book it. We thought it would be a lot more relaxing.
The view from our room, I think it will look even more stunning when all the work is done as there was still work being done, on the landscape. |
This was behind the reception desk and it was really stunning, i don't think the photo does it justice. Same with the chandelier behind it. |
The concierge area |
The concierge area! |
They even had a man to help you out the door! |
Customary shot of the bathroom, much nicer than my bathroom at home! With a shower! |
Never had room service before but it was like out of a movie where they bring a trolley that turns into a table. The chips were amazing, even the water tasted amazing! haha |
The intercontinental 02 arena was probably one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. They had concierges and bell boys and the nicest room service. For the price I felt it lived up to the standards. I mean we normally stay in a premiere inn so it was quite a step up for us. Because we were running late by the time we got to the arena we didn't have time to get something to eat so we ordered room service which was like I said before really nice room service. We don't normally order room service but i'm glad we did, the chips were amazing!
The staff were so helpful and friendly. We were given a disabled access room and it had one of the nicest showers, including shower chair!
One downside to the hotel is they took an additional £100 and they didn't tell me how long it would take for it to come back. So I did kind of worry that my bank account had been hacked but eventually things went back to normal. That would be my one criticism. That maybe they should have made me more aware of how long it would take to go back to normal. As i have stayed in a few hotels and it has never happened before. Maybe the previous hotels weren't posh enough! Hahaha
Onto Adele.
Adele was amazing, if you have had the opportunity to see her live you will know what I mean. When she first came out and sung the first few bars of hello, I felt goosebumps on my arms and I felt my eyes welling up. Which has never happened before but she was just stunning. It was one of those surreal moments of 'thats adele, singing right in front of me.' I feel like it had been something my mum and I had always said about doing that to actually get to this point of actually seeing her was one of surreal-ness. Adele is the one person my mum wanted to see as well, my mum joked that at least with Adele she will know most of the words! It was almost like when Adele started singing everyone just became quite and was in awe of her.
Her singing is probably better live than on her cds if thats even possible. She is so humouros, just like she's a longterm friend of yours. When she was talking about things like the pressure on mums to breastfeed was just hilarious. On the day we went was the day of the belgium attacks and as a mark of respect Adele dedicated the song 'make you feel my love to them'. It was one of those moments that everybody was still and in awe, but also still in a mark of respect. River lea was a talking topic, people were shouting for it and Adele said it wasn't on the set list. Ironically I left the arena humming it in my head! I feel most people think an Adele concert would be just a bunch of miserable people listening to someone sing sad songs. But I found it weirdly uplifting, sometimes rather than someone singing an upbeat song about how things are great. You need someone to say yeah things are crap and its okay to feel down at the moment but its not always going to be like that. Another touching moment was when she sang When We Were Young and at the end after a montage of baby Adele pictures theres a picture of Adele, the day before she had her baby boy. For someone as private as Adele is, it felt quite touching that she would share this photo.
I don't know if Adele will tour in the near future again, if rumours are to be believed she is going to be going on another long hiatus. But I feel privileged to have had the chance to see her live. I asked my mum if there was anything left on her bucket list, she said nope. So thats made my job easier!
We also bought a t-shirt and a hardback copy of her tour program. I bought the hardback one as it was only £10 more than the paperback and it should last longer and not bend unlike a paperback version. I was uhming and ahhing over getting a t-shirt but my mum and i both decided that we don't know if/when Adele will tour again so we might as well get it. We got the one that had the tour stops on the back, although there was a t-shirt of a drawing of Adele which I really liked as well.
Adele is one of those artists whose music can relate to almost anyone. Her concert was amazing and probably one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Between that and paramore. So thank you Adele for what was one of the best nights ever, and for helping me give my mum probably her biggest dream and best night ever.
If you have the opportunity to see Adele I urge you do, you won't be disappointed as she is an amazing performer and well quite funny and charismatic.
